Romanticization

Similar to redefinition, romanticization redefines the indigenous population or ethnic group as vanished, often rewriting history so that the dominate and oppressed groups collaborate to stop some "evil." Romanticization often promotes miscegenation, blurs the boundaries between the dominate and subordinate culture, and glorifies the minority of the dominate culture that worked to stem the destruction of the ethnic group. Romanticization serves two purposes: it helps the dominate culture feel less responsible and suppresses guilt, while at the same time provided a cathartic outlet that makes the dominate culture feel sympathy for the "lost" peoples of the Earth. Romaticization replaces empathy and action with a cleansing of conscience.
