Hawkins Lab Policies for Student Use
Winter 2002
1.
This lab is governed by all policies and procedures
outlined in the Clark College Computing Policy. Any activity that goes against this policy will not be
tolerated and may result in disciplinary action, including suspension from the
lab.
2.
Students may use any open lab on campus for work in
English 102. The policies of those
labs will outline entrance requirements.
3.
Students should not load software onto the computers nor
should they change settings on the machines without the expressed permission of
the Hawkins Lab Director and/or Clark College Computing Services.
4.
Students should not download material via the Internet
that does not directly relate to their research. All policies regarding research that are covered in the Clark
College Computing Policy will be enforced.
5.
Students are provided a log-in name and password for use
in the Hawkins Lab. Please use only
the log-in and password assigned by your instructor.
6.
When you are done using the Hawkins Lab, please either log
off as a user for your class or shut down the computer.
This will maintain the integrity and security of course materials and
network protocol software.
7.
Students should bring either a 3.5-inch floppy disk or Zip
disk for use in the lab. Students
should label this disk with their name, their instructor name, and course day
and time. Found disks will be
returned to the instructor. Unlabelled
disks will be left in the lab until quarter’s end, when they will be recycled.
8.
Students should NOT save to the “C” drive of any
Hawkins Lab machine. Files saved on
lab machines will be purged regularly.
9.
Students can save to the “F” drive (the Hawkins
server) when instructed to do so by the professor.
10.
Several “loaner” floppy disks are available should you
forget your own. These are
guaranteed to be virus-free when given to the student, but many of the disks are
older, and we cannot guarantee that the media will not fail.
Use at your own risk, and PLEASE return to the lab after use.
These disks are salvaged disks, and we do not have budgeted money for
replacements.
11.
The printer is for student use. Please use good common sense in selecting materials as
indiscriminant printing will cause delays for all.
12.
The Hawkins server is NOT accessible from other campus
labs; some instructors have provided some course materials for posting on the
web at <thor.clark.edu/korprt>.
13.
Because of the cramped quarters, food is NOT allowed in
the Hawkins Lab. Drinks are only
allowed in resealable containers (screw-top bottles) or in secure mugs with tops
(commuter-type mugs). No open
containers or paper coffee cups are allowed.
14.
If you smoke, please observe the posted signs designating
the smoking area near the lab (smoking is allowed toward the west end of the
courtyard near the parking lot).
While the tone of these rules may seem onerous, following
them will help the 300+ students and instructors to use the lab to its fullest
potential. Enjoy the facilities
that have been made available to you here.
