Instructor Bios
Lynda C. Bader received her B.A. in Behavioral Psychology from Pacific University. She attended Portland State University and Marylhurst University for post-graduate work in Affirmative Action and EEO Law, and has done extensive work in the areas of Communication and Human Resource Development. In addition to her many years as an independent consultant, she spent 10 years with Qwest Communications as a supervisor, instructor, course developer and customer service manager. Her expertise includes training and consulting for all levels within an organization with emphasis in the areas of managerial and supervisory skills, customer service analysis and implementation, and enhancing internal communication. She currently serves on the Board of the Oregon Chapter of the Organization Development Network, and is certified to administer and interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory.
David Hardman Black, Jr. obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan. Black has practiced labor, employment and business law, representing management, labor unions, municipalities, insurance companies and individuals. Black is currently licensed to practice law in Washington and Oregon. His numerous publications and speaking engagements can be reviewed at www.hrjuris.com.
Rich Bunker is a 31 year veteran of Lewis County public works as County Road Supervisor, working in all phases of road construction, maintenance and traffic control. He has been a Flagging certification instructor for nearly 20 years and also instructs Traffic Control Supervisor certification for the Evergreen Safety Council.
John Deller is a Human Resources Professional with more than 20 years of experience in leadership development, training and management. He heads Waldron & Company’s Portland office, leading its career transition, executive coaching, assessment and executive recruitment practices. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President and Regional Manager of Service Quality for First Interstate Bank, where he also held several other management positions including Regional Training Manager and Manager of Administrative Services. Deller was also Manager of Staffing and Development for Olympic Bank. Deller holds an undergraduate degree in engineering from West Point, an M.B.A., and a Master's in Counseling Psychology. He is past chair of Metropolitan Family Service, a member of the United Way Vision Council and president of the Portland Human Resources Management Association Board.
Linda Gentry combines the ability to explain technical subjects in understandable language with a love of teaching. Not only does she teach all the Microsoft Office products, she uses them daily producing and maintaining Web sites and database projects for her clients. She enhances the classroom experience with the additional tips and tricks she has learned over her 20+ years working with computers and software.
Beth Goldman has a B.S. in Business Administration with a specialty in Information Technology and a B.S. in Business Management. She also has a Master's Certificate in IT Project Management. Her career includes more than 10 years as a successful entrepreneur, several years in sales and marketing management, Director of Professional Services for a software development company, real estate sales and many years as a Project Manager for a local nonprofit organization.
Dianna Gould brings more than 15 years’ experience in the human resources profession. Her experience includes Director of Human Resources for Chrome Systems, Inc., a software technology firm, Human Resources Manager & Safety Director for Associated Chemists, Inc., a specialty chemical manufacturing facility, and Human Resources Manager for United Grain Corporation, an international grain merchandising and export company. Gould is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Portland Human Resource Management Association (PHRMA) Board of Directors. She currently is the Director for the SHRM Oregon State Council which represents nine chapters and more than 1,300 HR professionals in Oregon. Gould has a B.S. in Business Management from Warner Pacific College and certificates in Human Resources Management and Comprehensive Human Resources Management from Portland State University. She received her “lifetime” certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the HR Certification Institute/Society for Human Resource Management.
Jennifer Griffis, R.N., has more than seven years nursing experience, including as a State nurse aid evaluator, charge nurse and team leader, coupled with skilled nursing facility experience.
Seniye Groff, M.Ed., is the Director of Instructional Development at Via Training. Her focus is developing blended learning programs that improve sales force effectiveness. Groff brings an expertise in training, recruitment and sales management with a particular focus on maximizing performance while building team spirit and achieving organizational goals. Prior to joining Via Training, Groff was Director of Field Recruitment and Training for Standard Insurance Company. She also holds a Master’s of Science in Adult Training and Development, is an adjunct Professor at Marylhurst University and Clark College and serves on the board of ASTD-Cascadia Chapter and volunteers at Dress for Success.
Larry Hellie has a love of teaching and sharing information with others. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate coursework at City University, Clark College, Linfield College and Southwest Oregon Community College. He received his B.A. in Business Administration and an MBA in Industrial Relations. He has various affiliations with Society for Human Resource Management, Portland Human Resource Management Association, Oregon State Council-SHRM, Northwest Human Resource Management Association and others. Hellie’s career spans 36 years and includes positions with Oregon Steel Mills, Shell Oil, Consolidated Freightways, Convoy Company, Schnitzer Steel and ATOFINA Chemical. He is also the proprietor of Hellie Human Resources Consulting and Golf Inc.
E. Blair Johnson is Chief Human Resource Officer for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), working to support a total staff of 5,000 and a HR team of 55 professionals statewide. Blair’s professional career includes positions with Hilton Hotels, the stock brokerage and financial service firm Morgan Stanley Dean Witter and serving as Discover Card’s EEO & Employee Relations Division Manager supporting headquarters and field staff located in all 50 states. Johnson was also employed as Human Resource & Risk Management Director and Chief Labor Negotiator for Klamath County, Oregon and Human Resource Director and Chief Labor Negotiator at the City of Vancouver, Washington. He has served as Membership/Marketing Chair for the Helena (Montana) Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Founding President of the Klamath Basin (Oregon) SHRM Chapter, and Legislative/Conference Director for the Southwest Washington SHRM Chapter. He holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification and is a Certified Professional with the International Public Human Resource Management Association (IPMA-CP).
Diane Kane, M.Ed., is a polished presenter of both technical and communication-rich topics. She has been a stand-up trainer and communicator for more than 20 years.
David Kolberg, LCSW, LICSW, has nearly 20 years’ experience as a business consultant to public and private business organizations. His specialties include processes for hiring and developing peak performers, managing employees who aren’t performing, and building and maintaining teams. His solution-oriented approach in these areas offers fresh perspectives and new techniques to old problems.
Michael Lawrence, MBA, CPA, CMA, CFM has more than 25 years of experience in the field of Accounting. A published author of three books on financial and managerial accounting, he is an adjunct Professor at Portland State University, Mt. Hood Community College and Clackamas Community College. In addition to his many years of teaching, he has experience in retail accounting and has operated a small business specializing in accounting for nonprofit organizations. He serves on the board of the Portland chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants and is a member of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Jonnie Martin, SPHR, is a Vancouver-based management consultant and trainer, helping small and mid-sized companies in every phase of organizational development, including start-up, growth, change, size-down, and ownership transition. She assists with strategic planning, executive coaching, development of management teams, key hires and guidance through sensitive HR matters. Martin has served organizations for more than 30 years, as an internal officer and as an external consultant. She holds a B.B.A. in Accounting, has done master’s and independent studies on a wide range of business subjects, including organizational development, and holds the S.P.H.R. designation from S.H.R.M. Martin does extensive training and retreat work for clients, independently and through Clark College, and has taught Business and Accounting subjects for more than 15 years through Clark College’s Professional Development division.
Debbie Miller has an extensive Accounting background, with work in the payroll profession for almost 20 years. Five of those years were spent training payroll. She has been a Certified Payroll Professional since 1998. She is currently Secretary of the Portland Metropolitan Payroll Association and a member of the American Payroll Association. Her career includes processing payroll for manufacturing, ambulance and medical care, cable carriers, unions, high-tech, retail, and currently a telecommunications company. She has completed many of the American Payroll Association classes, and attends the APA year-end seminar each year to keep updated on changing laws that affect the profession.
Ray Olitt has more than 25 years of experience in training and organizational development. He retired as Manager of Organizational Development for Regence Blue Shield in 2003. Prior to that he served as Manager of Management and Professional Development for Security Pacific Bank and as a Management and Organizational Development Specialist for aerospace companies in California. Olitt has taught numerous management and leadership development courses and many professional development classes for non-management staff. Topics have included supervisory and management skills, interpersonal skills, customer service, personal growth, team building, career development, problem solving and communication skills. Ollitt earned an Ed.D. from UCLA with a specialization in Adult Curriculum Development.
Linda Peterson R.N., has more than 10 years of teaching experience coupled with community health and long-term care experience.
Mike Reynoldson has nearly 20 years of accounting, finance, investment banking and venture capital experience. He currently runs four venture capital funds and is a director on seven private company boards.
Carole Ann Rogge, SPHR, has more than 17 years of experience in human resources management along with a teaching background. She has held Human Resources management positions in retail, publishing and high-tech industries. She currently serves as an Employee Relations Consultant in the healthcare industry.
Terry Rost has experience that includes 30 years as an executive of finance in a fortune 500 company, a degree in economics from Willamette University, an Executive MBA from the University of Oregon, studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Business, and a variety of teaching and speaking engagements. Additional practical experience comes from ownership of two successful small businesses and several years of specialization in the area of franchising. This broad and unique base of experience forms the core of Rost’s successful consulting and mentoring business, The Franchise Group, focused on helping individuals find a franchise opportunity that is right for them.
Dena Singer is a CPA whose goal is to help business owners and bookkeepers expand their knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software. Her course content benefits novices as well as experienced users. She goes beyond "which buttons to push" to teach non-accountants how to do accounting by translating computer-eze and accounting-eze into simple, understandable terms. Her expertise stems from 13 years of teaching classes, consulting and hands-on training for all industries. Singer packs a lot of information into each class, while attempting to make the learning process a fun and enjoyable experience.
Jane Spence has worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor and an Administrator in the Healthcare field for more than 35 years in such areas as public mental health, public health, AIDA research, healthcare planning and development, hospital planning and corrections health. She is currently completing her Post Masters Certificate of Nursing Education at Oregon Health Sciences University. She has taught both in private and public sector educational settings and is currently retired. She completed her Master's degree in Counseling Psychology. She volunteers as a federal wildlife docent at the Ridgefield Cathlapolte Plankhouse and is a volunteer firefighter for the Tillamook Fire Department.
Neil Van Houten has been an HR professional for more than 14 years. He holds an M.S. in Education in Information Technology and a Ph.D. in Business Administration. He is a certified quality manager and currently manages the HR function at two facilities for an international manufacturing company that provides aluminum castings and plastic housings for heavy trucks and automotive customers. He is a systems expert with emphasis on continuous improvement and lean manufacturing in the construction of HR programs and protocols. His areas of professional expertise are labor relations, employee relations and strategic planning.
Jennifer Yocum cajoles, jokes, flatters, draws, writes, speaks, sings, dances, creates games and uses any techniques necessary to help people learn and have fun while learning subjects ranging from Basic Business Writing to Quantum Theology. She has taught classes in the Professional Development and Customized Training divisions at Clark College since 1992 and serves as a management consultant to public and nonprofit agencies.
